The Shadow was one of the first and longest lasting Hero Pulps character and one of the longest lasting. In addition to a record of 325 complete novels dedicated to a single, recurring character, The Shadow has been the subject of books, comics and movies. The original author, Walter Gibson, wrote 282 of those pulp volumes, averaging a 60,000 word novel every other week for more than ten years.
